FormBackend is the Splitforms alternative for sites that need a submissions workflow, not only a higher submission counter. Splitforms gives you 5,000 submissions for $5 a month; FormBackend gives you 1,000 for the same $5. What FormBackend adds on its higher plans is form rules, conditional emails, whitelabel notifications, a REST API, custom sender domains, custom email templates and projects with team roles, and its free plan resets every month.

If you are comparing Splitforms pricing with FormBackend, start with the honest number: at $5 per month, Splitforms includes five times the submissions. If raw volume per dollar is the decision, Splitforms wins it and this page will not pretend otherwise. The rest of the page is about what happens to a submission after it arrives, which is where the two products diverge.

FormBackend is a form backend service. You write the HTML form, point its action at a unique URL, and FormBackend handles submissions, spam filtering, email notifications, file uploads and integrations, with a dashboard to view, export and route every submission. Splitforms works the same way: a form posts to its endpoint with a hidden access key.

Pricing and limits below were checked on October 6, 2026 against splitforms.com/pricing and FormBackend’s plan configuration. Both products can change plan details over time, so verify current plan pages before making a final purchasing decision.

Splitforms pricing and free plan in 2026

  • Splitforms Free is $0 and lists 500 submissions, unlimited forms, email notifications, spam filtering, a submissions dashboard, redirect after submit and the MCP server. No file uploads. The 500 is a total allowance rather than a monthly one.
  • Splitforms Pro is $5 per month and includes 5,000 submissions per month, unlimited forms, webhooks, Google Sheets, Notion and other integrations, CC and BCC, auto-replies, routing, file uploads with 500 MB of storage, Stripe payments, 3 team seats and priority email support.
  • Splitforms Annual is $49 per year and includes 15,000 submissions per month with 5 GB of upload storage.
  • FormBackend Free is $0 and includes 50 submissions per month, 1 form, a dashboard, export and 30 days of retention. It does not send email notifications.
  • FormBackend Simple is $5 per month ($50 per year) and includes 1,000 submissions per month, 2 forms, 250 MB of file uploads, email notifications, auto-response emails, custom redirects, webhooks, Zapier and spam protection.
  • FormBackend Freelancer is $14 per month and includes 5,000 submissions per month, 10 forms, 1 GB of uploads, form rules, conditional emails, whitelabel notifications, branded auto-replies, the REST API and unlimited retention.
  • FormBackend Business is $50 per month and includes 10,000 submissions per month, unlimited forms, 10 GB of uploads, team members and roles, projects, native Slack and Google Sheets integrations, custom sender domains, custom email templates and a whitelabel thank-you page.

Some third-party round-ups still quote a Splitforms free plan of 1,000 submissions per month. The live pricing page on the date above says 500, so check it before you decide.

Where Splitforms does better

Being honest, and leading with it, because it is the first thing you will check:

  • Five times the submissions at $5. Splitforms Pro includes 5,000 submissions per month. FormBackend Simple includes 1,000. If a single site takes more than 1,000 submissions a month and you want to pay $5, choose Splitforms.
  • Unlimited forms on every plan. FormBackend limits forms per plan: 1 on Free, 2 on Simple, 10 on Freelancer, unlimited on Business.
  • A free plan that notifies you. The Splitforms free plan sends email notifications and includes 500 submissions. FormBackend’s free plan is dashboard-and-export only; email notifications start at $5.
  • More native integrations. Notion, Airtable, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Telegram, WhatsApp and Microsoft Teams are native on Splitforms. On FormBackend, Notion, Airtable and Mailchimp go through Zapier.
  • Stripe payments and team seats at $5. Splitforms Pro includes payment collection and 3 team seats. FormBackend has no payment feature, and team members start on the Business plan.
  • More MCP tools. Splitforms exposes 12 tools to AI agents; FormBackend exposes 7.

Where FormBackend does better

A free plan that keeps going

FormBackend’s free plan is 50 submissions per month, every month, for as long as you want it. A personal site or a portfolio contact form can run on it indefinitely. The Splitforms free plan is 500 submissions in total; once they are used, the plan is finished. If your free form is a long-lived low-traffic form rather than a trial, 50 per month that resets is the more useful shape.

Rules, conditional emails and whitelabel from $14

Most sites never approach 1,000 submissions a month. What they do need, once a form matters, is routing: send the sales enquiry to one inbox and the support request to another, change the auto-reply by the answer given, hide FormBackend’s name from every email a client sees. FormBackend’s Freelancer plan includes form rules, conditional emails, whitelabel notifications and branded auto-replies, with the REST API and unlimited retention.

Client work at the Business tier

Agencies get projects with team roles, custom email templates, custom sender domains so notifications come from the client’s domain, and a whitelabel thank-you page. These are the features that let one FormBackend account run forms for many clients without the clients seeing a third-party brand.

Retention you set, not retention you manage

FormBackend auto-deletes submissions after a period you choose on each form: 30 days on Free, up to 365 days on Simple, any period on Freelancer and above. That matters for forms that collect personal data under GDPR, because the deletion happens without a calendar reminder. See form settings and data retention.

Your choice of captcha

Both products filter spam on every plan. FormBackend also supports Cloudflare Turnstile, hCaptcha and reCAPTCHA as a visible or invisible challenge when the built-in filtering is not enough for a high-traffic form.

Nine years of the same endpoint

FormBackend has run as an independent, founder-operated service since April 2017. Nine years of form submissions, spam waves and deliverability problems are built into the defaults. That is not a feature you can list in a table, but it is the reason the first-month refund exists.

Who should choose Splitforms

Splitforms is the better fit if:

  • You need more than 1,000 submissions a month and want to pay $5.
  • You need unlimited forms on a low tier, or on the free plan.
  • You want native Notion, Airtable, HubSpot or Telegram delivery without Zapier.
  • You collect payments through the form.
  • You want team seats without a Business plan.

Who should choose FormBackend

FormBackend is the better fit if:

  • Your forms take fewer than 1,000 submissions a month and the $5 counter is not the constraint.
  • You route submissions by their content, or send different auto-replies to different answers.
  • You run forms for clients and want whitelabel emails, custom sender domains and per-client projects.
  • You need auto-deletion of personal data on a schedule.
  • You want a free form that works forever, not a free allowance that runs out.

How to switch

Both services accept a standard HTML form that posts with method="POST". Switching means changing the action and removing the Splitforms access key.

  1. Create a FormBackend account (free)
  2. Create a form and copy your unique endpoint URL
  3. Set the form’s action to your FormBackend URL
  4. Remove the hidden access_key input
  5. Submit a test entry and check it in the dashboard
<!-- Before (Splitforms) -->
<form action="https://splitforms.com/api/submit" method="POST">
  <input type="hidden" name="access_key" value="your-key">

<!-- After (FormBackend) -->
<form action="https://www.formbackend.com/f/your-id" method="POST">

If an AI coding agent built the original form through the Splitforms MCP server, the FormBackend MCP server can create the replacement form, add its fields and return the endpoint URL from Claude Code or Cursor.
